As the immune system is compromised during exercise, viruses and infections are easily spread to users of sports and leisure facilities. Outbreaks of airborne viruses such as Influenza and Norovirus are damaging in terms of staff sickness, lost revenue and, importantly, reputation. Another potentially damaging issue in public relations terms is that of bad smells that can diffuse throughout the building. These ruin any healthy exercise experience associated with the clubs. CASE STUDY

VAPS was installed in an open plan area where several people had complained of respiratory irritation. Levels of biological load were taken prior to installing VAPS. Once operational, measurements were taken again and the total biological load had decreased by 84%.

Following this, the units were switched off, and three days later the levels were rapidly increasing again.
